Public Schools Week Highlight

This week, we’re celebrating National Public Schools Week and highlighting various roles that help our schools run smoothly and efficiently.

Brooke at workTo close out the week, we’re spotlighting Brooke, the office manager at Dakota Middle School.

How long have you worked with RPS? How long with Dakota Middle School?

I’ve worked at RPS most recently for the past 15 years. I was also a Long-term Substitute in 1998-99 at John Marshall. This is my second year at Dakota (this is only the second year Dakota has been open).

Why did you choose to work for RPS?

I have always been proud of our school district. My dad is a retired elementary principal, and my husband and many family members and friends work for the district. I am proud that I went to Elton Hills Elementary School, John Adams Middle School, and John Marshall High School. I am proud that my four kids went to Franklin Elementary, Willow Middle School, and Mayo High School. I guess I wanted to be a small part of that.

What's your favorite thing about working with middle schoolers?

Middle schoolers are fun, you never know how your day will go! I love seeing them come in as scared 6th graders and leave middle school as 8th graders ready to take on high school.

What's something people should know about your work as an office manager?

The work as an office manager is a busy job - there are many details to worry about. But, it is very rewarding when the days go smoothly for staff and students.

What was one of your favorite memories of going to school?

One of my favorite memories of attending school was during my junior year at John Marshall. President George H. W. Bush came to give a speech. Not many schools can say that! No matter what our political views were, we were all happy to see him! It was quite an experience to see how much security went into the visit.

Thank you to Brooke and all of our office managers across the district who help our students feel like they belong and contribute to the growth and success of our students and schools.
